Abstract

The problems discussed in this thesis relate to the ability to write text arguments carried out by class XI students of Persada Bandar Lampung High School. Aspects assessed include the suitability of the title with the content, use and writing of spelling, choice of words or diction, sentence structure, overall content. The purpose of the study was to determine the ability of students to write text arguments, find out the obstacles experienced and know and describe the solution. This research uses quantitative methods. The study population was 20 students as well as research samples. Data collection uses assignments to write text arguments and analyzed by quantitative analysis. The results showed that students' ability to write argument texts with an average score of 67 was sufficient. In the aspect of the suitability of the title with the contents of the ability of students showed an average score of 77 in the good category, while the aspects of use and spelling writing reached an average score of 53 in the less category. In the aspect of word choice or diction, student scores reached 65 in sufficient categories, while on aspects of the use of sentence structure, the average score of students reached 65 in sufficient categories and on the overall content aspect, the average score of students reached 77 in the good category. Constraints experienced by students are not accustomed to writing activities, insights that are lacking in writing texts, weak mastery of Indonesian spelling, are less able to focus on the themes discussed, and lack of vocabulary. The solution, a lot of practice writing texts independently, reading activities in the library, designing text frameworks, and to enrich vocabulary should read a lot of KBBI, articles, and other texts
