Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of the communicative approach in learning Indonesian to improve speaking skills in fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Beringin Raya. This research is a Classroom Action Research which consists of 4 stages namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class V. Data collection methods are carried out through tests, observations, questionnaires and documentation. Data analysis techniques used quantitative analysis techniques and qualitative analysis techniques. Mastery learning in this study is to achieve the acquisition of a percentage of 80% of the total number of students and the average student activity score each cycle has increased. The results of the study showed that student activity increased from an average of 63 in cycle I to 80 in cycle II, whereby an increase in score from cycle I to cycle II was obtained by 17. Student completeness also increased where in cycle I the percentage was 66, 67% in the assessment category (Enough) and cycle II of 90%, which obtained an increase in the percentage of learning completeness from cycle I to cycle II of 23.33%. So it can be concluded that learning by applying a communicative approach in learning Indonesian can improve the speaking skills of Class V students at SD Negeri 1 Beringin Raya.
