Abstract

The problem in this study is related to the not yet optimal mathematical problem solving ability of students. Therefore, this study aims to determine and analyze the average difference in mathematical problem solving abilities using the Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring (REACT) strategy with those using conventional strategies in odd semester VIII students of SMP Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung in 2021/2022 lessons. This research is an experimental research, as well as data analysis using parametric statistics in the form of t-test. The population of this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung which consisted of 10 classes with a total of 315 students, while the sample was taken 2 classes, namely class VIII 3 as the experimental class which amounted to 32 students and class VIII 1 as the control class which amounted to 32 students. . The sample was taken using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. The ability to solve mathematical problems is measured by using a test in the form of an essay as many as 5 questions which are first tested for validity and reliability. The results of hypothesis testing show the value of t_hit = 7.78 and from the t distribution table at a significant level of 5% it is known that t_daf = 1.67. This means that t_hit > t_daf is 7.78 > 1.67, so it can be concluded that "There is an effect of Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring (REACT) strategies on the mathematical problem solving ability of eighth grade students in odd semesters at SMP Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung in the academic year. 2021/2022". This can be seen from the average value of students' mathematical problem solving abilities where the experimental class students have an average score of 85.31 which is higher than the control class which has an average value of 65.50.
